Sam was wandering through her local thrift store, her hands in the pockets of her light blue zip up hoodie, browsing through the limited costume selection they had, looking for something simple to wear, or even just a nice new accessory. She headed over to a wall of wigs, picking up a rainbow colored one and taking it out, comparing its length to her own mid-back length straight silky brunette locks, the wig falling several inches too short. She frowned, stuffing it back in its plastic bag and hanging it back up, in love with rainbow hair, but not wanting to damage her own with constant bleaching and dying. She next looked over in the accessory area, searching for a tiny hair clip hat or a spoopy piece of headgear. As she turned the corner for the aisle, the ruby glint of something shiny on the jewelry display caught her eye, almost magnetically drawing her towards it. She’d always been distracted by shiny things when she was bored, so this was the perfect storm.
